052 - How’s a Chilean wedding anyway?

There’s a lot of different ways weddings are celebrated here in Chile (Just like in any other country) there’s several ways Chileans incorporate some tradition to their special days, some use our traditional music, clothes, dance, food, drinks or the basic horse ride in "Victoria". I’m not planning on adding all of those to our wedding but I thought I should share them, just for fun :)

First our "Huaso Chileno" this would be our version of the "American Cowboy"

{ Image Source (Link) }

Our national dance "Cueca" (I know, Sounds funny but it's pretty) This is not the best quality video, but you can still see the dance :)

The traditional "Huaso and China" Clothes. This is a very popular Chilean traditional dance group call "Bafochi" (link) They perform all over the world and here you can see the normal "Elegant girl" outfit on our national colors (usually is just black and white)

I've seen a lot of weddings where the Groom is dressed on a "Huaso" outfit and the bride on a normal white dress and they do a small horse parade (I think is really cute) but Mr. Poodle would not know what to do on those clothes lol

Cort house is a very popular option here, but instead of having the ceremony at the Cort House usually someone goes to their homes and perform the ceremony (Usually a really quick one).This is how my parents got married, just the sign papers and a quick cocktail - The kind I never wanted, I always wanted the white dress :).

But of course there's the normal Santiago wedding too :) not much different than any other wedding on a City.

I think you might recognize the following photographer - Kyle Hepp - from Miss Bear Cub's E-Pictures; She's an American Photographer based on Chile and she has an amazing portfolio with Chilean weddings, here some eye candy.

Are you going to have (or had) a multicultural wedding? Witch were the things you incorporated from your SO's (or your) culture?

051 - Why blogging is a challenge to me

Most of you know that I’m a Spanish speaker and I’ve never had real English classes. So I’ve learn over music, movies and Internet. Back on 2006 I knew just some words and the basics “where’s the bathroom” and “can I have one?” to survive in California.

My goal by getting into the exchange program then was to learn English the tough way, just go there all by myself and live the experience :) Never thought I would find the love of my life there yay!

I’ve managed to learn enough to understand everything people say to me and start conversations, BUT it was really hard to me to not do the “translate everything on my head” process before speaking or writing.

Because I lack all the English grammar, and because sometimes it’s REALLY different than the way we normally do it on Spanish. I was really scared about actually working in California and communicate ALL DAY on English. (I even had nightmares :O )

Then I thought about blogging and here comes my personal challenge -> English speaking people are actually reading this!! I know I’m a baby blogger, but doing this pushes me to not just plan our dream wedding but also to practice and learn. I’m not just writing but also following and reading all the wedding related blogs I found interesting, Yes! I’m learning from all of you BEEs!

I know there's different stories about why you started blogging ( If you have a blog) if so What does blogging means to you? and why you started?

049 - Sweet !!!

Mr. Poodle's mom "B" has being soo helpful and supportive on this “sometimes kind of weird” planning process. I think I would still be "google-ing" every wedding related term if it wasn’t because the day after Mr. Poodle told his family we were getting married, she sent me:

- The Wedding Book by Mindy Weiss and Lisbeth Levine
- and tons of bridal magazines(yay!)Those are actually the only ones I have.

Anyway on my last trip to California, long before Mr.Poodle and I thought about getting marry, I saw that B had a really cute photo album with tons of wedding cake pictures on it. I was very surprised that she actually bake them and REALLY impressed with every cake she has on her album portfolio (I think I should make her a web page portfolio soon, cause she’s amazing! What you think B?)

So the first image that pop to my head when I first thought about cakes was, of course, HER album!! And yeah Mr. Poodle said it before me, he wanted to ask her to bake the cake, so it was perfect!!!

I know how great she is so I wasn’t even worried about looking at cake pictures, plus lately I’ve been just focusing on trying to finish the cake topper (Link) But last night I thought to myself! :o hey!! Come on Miss Poodle.. You need to at least give her ideas!! That came to my mind after being so mad at a client that told me that she loved so much all my Web Designs, so she’ll just leave it up to me, not giving me any clue of what she wanted. All the sudden the B’s wedding cake portfolio came to my mind -> Ohh!! Noo I’m doing the exact same thing to her!! :O

I know I would love whatever she makes, but I just don’t want her to be mad at me because I’m leaving everything up to her lol.

So here's my inspiration wedding cake:

Ok, so this one is not on my favorites as a cake - I want something more rustic, but I loved the firefighter ♥ ( In case you don't know that's Mr. Poodle's job) I really loved the cakes form Pink Cake Box (link) they have a great gallery.

{ Image Source (Link) }

Now this one, I had to post just because It has climbers!!! Just like our cake topper, but in our case I would rather have a normal cake with just the toppers.

{ Image Source (Link) }

Now lets focus on the cakes not the toppers :) I've been researching over rustic cakes. The first thing I notice was that cigars are HOT on the wedding cake industry now :) and... I LIKE IT!!

But, I'm afraid it can turn in to a too dramatic cake, because there's going to be so much going on, with the cigars and Mr.Poodle climbing there with me on the top :D So I looked over nice softer textures.

And some plane cakes too with lil blossoms ( Just like my origami ones yay!) This are awesome :)

What about a purple cake??? :o too cute!

{ Image Source (Link) }

I was just kidding with that last one, I don't want a purple cake, purple details, yeahh! :D

Where did you got your cake from?

048 - Sewn invitation’s idea

Where that came from? Well, I’ve seen some projects that had really caught my attention cause to me -> Mixing paper, fabric, stamps and sewed details = simply AWESOME!!

I wasn’t searching for anything in particular when I came across all this pictures, I just like always, save them on my "wedding folder" just in case. Now after organizing and after seing them all together, it all made sense.

I wanted something original that didn’t involve a lot of paper (because of the nature of our wedding, and the fact we don't want to use a lot of "new paper") and I love sewing cause there are so many possibilities when it comes to fabric, so what better than having both on our invitations.

Nope! I’m not going to show you the invitations right away.
(I got to be mysterious in some way) -> yeah right! I’m just joking :D
It’s just that there are still a lot of details to work - on the samples. I rather show product finish pictures :) But I can give you a clue sharing all the cool DIY projects that inspire me so here they go:

About this blog

I am a Spanish speaker and I started this blog as a way to learn English, I was blogging from Chile while we waited on our Visa process so I could move to California and we could have our green and purple wedding. So a big portion of this planning happened while we were still dating long distance.
